Choosing the Right Entrance Control Solution for Your Gym

entrance control

When choosing the right entrance control solution for your gym, you ultimately want something that provides both convenience and security.

You need a gym entrance control system that allows members to access your facilities without hassle. But you also want to ensure that your facilities are not accessible to non-members – without the need for a front desk member of staff to always be on hand to monitor those entering the gym.

In this article, we explain the benefits of different gym entrance control systems – and which may be best for you.

Which Entrance Control System Is Right for Me?

The entrance control solution you choose for your gym will depend on four things: your budget, your gym opening hours, the space you have available and the visual look.

Swing Gates

Swing gates are one of the most popular options if you’re looking for a simple, cost-effective access control solution for your gym.

You’ll have seen swing gates in many establishments. They provide simple security for gyms, don’t take up too much space and access can be granted by a member of staff, or automatically via an access control system using a swipe card, fob or fingerprint recognition.

Tripod Turnstile

A tripod turnstile provides security for your gym facilities but with the added benefit of not obstructing the view. Additionally, simple tripod turnstile models require less space than some other options, such as speedgates.

A tripod system may not be best if you provide out of hours facilities, however, as the system could quite easily be scaled by unwanted visitors. Tripod systems work best when a member of staff is available to monitor access.

Speedgates

Alternatively, speed gates provide a more aesthetically pleasing barrier. Their stainless steel and glass construction makes them ideal for stylish gyms looking for a security option that blends in with its surroundings and doesn’t look too industrial or archaic.

Plus, they can be installed at disabled user width. This means a separate entrance point isn’t required for wheelchair users.

Waist height speedgates provide a good level of security for your gym. But for extra security, particularly when providing out of hours access to members, choose full height glass speedgates.

Full Height Turnstile

Full height turnstiles provide high-level security and are perfect for gyms offering 24/7 access. They prevent people from tailgating others and can be integrated with a full biometric or swipe card access control system.

Unlike some of the more affordable solutions, full height turnstiles will provide you with the confidence to offer out of hours access to your gym without needing a member of staff on hand.

However, full height turnstiles do require more space than other turnstile options, and their rigid construction with large steel bars may not be entirely in keeping with the look of your gym.
