How to Know if Your Entrance Security Needs Updating

As a business owner or manager, your entrance security may not always feel like the top of your long list of priorities!

However, it’s crucial that your business premises are kept secure and safe, for both your employees and your visitors.

With the lasting effects of the pandemic, your entrance control is now more important than ever. There are a number of things you should be doing to help control who enters your business premises in order to help control the spread of the virus.

So if you’re unsure whether or not your entrance security needs an update, here are some of our top tell-tale signs:

You Refrain from Inviting Visitors

First things first, you know your entrance security solution is ready for an upgrade if you become hesitant to invite visitors to your workplace.

This may be due to various reasons such as the aesthetic of your entrance, or perhaps the complexity of your entrance control solution.

If you’re looking for an aesthetically pleasing alternative, then we have a complete range of modern turnstiles including our TDZ-B250S speed gate complete with 1800mm high glass options, as pictured below. Installing 1800mm high glass wings also provides a higher level of security without looking intimidating and keeping that aesthetically appealing finish.

If you feel that your current entrance control isn’t very accessible for visitors, then it may be that your access control system in fact needs an upgrade. You could provide visitors with your traditional pin codes and swipe cards, or look at the current systems like biometric scanners which include facial recognition and fingerprint readers or venture down the route of QR scanners.

You’ve Encountered Unauthorised Personnel

The highest priority of your entrance control is, of course, that it needs to be completely secure.

If you’ve recently encountered unauthorised visitors, then it may be that you need to consider implementing an access control system.

Entrance control solutions such as turnstiles are a great way to control the flow of traffic in and out of your business premises, but for a higher level of security, you could integrate them with an access control system.

This means you can allow entry only to authorised personnel, once again by either traditional swipe cards and key fobs, or current biometric credentials including facial recognition, fingerprint readers and QR scanners.

Your Access Control System Isn’t Scalable

If you already have an access control system in place, then that’s great! But with the ever-changing needs and growth of your business, it’s important that it’s also scalable.

If you work in a gym for example, then you may offer your gym members a membership card to allow them to gain entry. Therefore it’s important when choosing any access control system that you are able to easily order more cards to increase the number of users.

Better still, you could opt for a biometric access control system, such as fingerprint or facial recognition. These systems generally have a much larger capacity for users and decrease the need for any additional expense of having to order extra cards or fobs.

It Isn’t Contactless

With the ‘new normal’ following the pandemic, contactless systems are becoming increasingly popular.

In places such as hospitals where we have to be more careful, or gyms where you find a lot of passing traffic in and out, having a contactless entrance is crucial.

Biometric systems have become the most favourable option as such and will play a huge role as we move forward. Facial recognition systems provide a completely contactless solution and could therefore be an important investment for the future.
