Indonesia incorporates artificial intelligence into new national strategy

According to the Jakarta Post, on August 10, Indonesian Minister of Research and Technology and Chairman of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Bambang Brodjonegoro released a blueprint in Jakarta to guide the development of artificial intelligence in Indonesia from 2020 to 2045. . In addition to the development of the Internet of Things, advanced robotics, augmented reality technology and 3D printing, the development of artificial intelligence is one of the five areas that the Ministry focuses on.

Minister Banbang stated that Indonesia will focus on education and research, medical services, administrative system reform, food security, mobility and smart cities. According to data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the release of the national guidelines published in the form of e-books marks a step forward for Indonesia in the field of artificial intelligence technology.

However, the guidelines point out that although Indonesia's demographic dividend and its "unique" data resources are one of Indonesia's advantages in the development of artificial intelligence, Indonesia has neither relevant regulations to supervise the development of artificial intelligence, nor an official institution to supervise the development of artificial intelligence. As a possible solution, the guidelines suggest that Indonesia should focus on infrastructure and data, research and industrial innovation, ethics and policy, and talent development. And set up a data ethics committee to oversee its development and formulate regulations and national standards for artificial intelligence innovation.

Indonesia's artificial intelligence providers and experts praised this move for laying the foundation for the development of artificial intelligence. At the same time, they also urge the government and other stakeholders to improve strategies, anticipate risks and fix current deficiencies.
