The difference between IC card and ID card

At present, many developers who build smart communities or buildings have all-in-one card projects, but there are still big doubts and misunderstandings about whether to use IC cards or ID cards for all-in-one cards.
Here are two important differences between the two cards to help you get out of the misunderstanding.

I. Definition of IC card and ID card

The full name of IC card is Integrated Circuit Card (Integrated Circuit Card), also known as Smart Card (Smart Card). Read and write, large capacity, encryption function, reliable data recording, and more convenient to use, such as all-in-one card systems, consumer systems, etc. At present, there are mainly PHILIPS Mifare series cards.

The full name of the ID card is the Identification Card. It is a non-writable proximity card with a fixed number. It mainly includes EM format of Taiwan SYRIS, American HID, TI, MOTOROLA and other ID cards.

2. Why does the IC card have to be initialized (ie, encrypted), but the ID card is not used?

1.When the IC card is used, it must pass the unique two-way key authentication between the IC card and the reading and writing device before relevant work can be carried out, so that the entire system has a very high security guarantee.

Therefore, the factory IC card must be initialized (ie, encrypted). The purpose is to generate an unbreakable card system key in the factory IC card to ensure the security issuance mechanism of the card system.

   2. After the IC card is initialized and encrypted, when it is handed over to the user for use, the customer uses the IC card issuance system to generate the private key of the system for each user card.

In this way, it is ensured that user cards issued in other user systems cannot be used in this system, the specificity of the system is guaranteed, and the safe use mechanism of the system is guaranteed.

   3. The ID card, like the magnetic card, only uses the "card number". In addition to the card number, there is no confidentiality function inside the card, and the "card number" is public and exposed. Therefore, the ID card is an "inductive magnetic card", and there is no question of whether it needs to be initialized or not.

4. Why is the initialization process not left to the user? This is because:

) If it is initialized by the user, it cannot prevent cheating by the user's internal personnel. Because when a user uses the all-in-one card system, if an employee uses a card purchased from the society to initialize at will, he can freely issue a household card that can only be used by residents, and even recharge the card at will. This will not only cause serious cheating consequences, but also It will cause serious loopholes in the use mechanism of the security of the all-in-one card system.
...
2) In addition, if the user buys a low-quality factory card
If it cannot be used on the system, it will cause poor performance or paralysis of the system, which will cause unclear responsibility for the accident.
...
3) The initialization process is carried out by the manufacturer, which is mainly required for the security key authentication mechanism of the IC card, and is also the rule of the IC card system integrator. Just like urban public transportation IC cards, before these cards are handed over to the public transportation system, the key of each card must be factory encrypted and controlled.
...
4) If the key fob used for initial authorization is lost due to lack of professional management by the user, the user and the manufacturer will not be able to use the card. Therefore, the initial work is done by the manufacturer to ensure safety.
